Dr. Ratna De was a member of the 15th Lok Sabha and continues to be a member of the 16th Lok Sabha. She was elected as a Trinamool Congress candidate from Hooghly, which includes the Singur area. She is daughter of Dr. Gopal Das Nag, who was Labour Minister in the Congress government under Siddhartha Shankar Ray.
